i bought my bf a garmin gps for xmas a nuvi 200? hes a truck driver and the store told me “oh of course its great for a trucker driver and online you can downlaod tons of maps for free”!!! haha heres my question where online do you download the maps???? i see clearly on the garmin.com site where you can get the extra software (mostly free) but the maps cost money(like 99 dollars). plus there is nothing for a truck driver. anyone know any sites or links. or better gps out there?

I find that the Topo map supplied with my Garmin GPS are rather inadequate. It shows very few place names and the footpaths are bitty and incomplete. I am looking for a proper Os map, either 1:25000 or 1:50000. Can anyone help?

I just sold a Garmin Nuvi 350. It was a great machine, but I would like to upgrade to a widescreen I see the Nuvi 650 and 660 but I believe they are discontinuing this line. The features that are important to me are the Wide Screen. The Bluetooth, Multiple Routing, MP3 Player etc are ok, but not everyday uses. Any suggestions on gps units and do you know of any deals. The most current maps would obviously be a real plus rather than older versions.

I’m pretty knowledgeable about technical specs and things, so I find it strange I’m even asking this. But I’m mostly wondering about the reliability and usability of the units. I know Garmin is said to be the best, but the Garmin unit we have at work has a habit of crashing and requiring a lengthy reset process. Right now I’m looking at some Garmin units (because they can’t all be bad), the TomTom units and this Mio unit. I’m not taking into consideration extra features like mp3 playback or bluetooth at this point, so please don’t worry about listing these features as a pro or con between them. I’m only interested in reliability, quality of navigation, quality of maps and ease of use (because someone not so technologically knowledgeable will be using it on a day to day basis)
