1st up the Garmin brand is good and the Nuvi 350 is not a bad choice either.
Pros: It is compact (imagine a deck of cards), voice-enabled and has a strong GPS receiver and includes lots of travel-friendly features.
Cons: It is expensive, and the traffic receiver and the travel-guide programs cost extra. Also it lacks an external volume control.
I would give it a 7.5.

In this day and age with google maps, map quest, garmin, magellan… do you think I still need to put driving directions in with my invitations? Or is it enough to just give them an address and have them google it?

They all do (except for the handheld ones that are used for hiking). All the GPS models you see at “standard” stores give you turn-by-turn directions right out of the box, no additional software needed.

About Garmin 760
Pros:
1. Easy to use right away. A very intuitive product.
2. Suction cup mount is perfect as is – do not believe reviews that say otherwise.
3. Bluetooth connectivity setup was easy and works well. I don’t think my phone was listed as one supported by this unit.
4. Spoken street names and turn indications helpful.
5. Price on Amazon when I purchased ($440) was very competitive.
6. Is quick to realize when you deviate from a route and doesn’t pester you to turn around. It simply says “recalculating” and then shows you a revised route based on where you are now driving.
7. Interface for entering addresses works well.
8. You can load a route you create online with Mapquest. Sometimes the map comes over exactly the way you wanted, other times not so good.
9. You can add user created POI’s to the unit. Search around on the web for POI libraries; they are there and it is not that difficult to add them to your unit.
Cons:
1. No icons for points of interest (POI). The only time you can find them on this unit is when you switch to the 2 dimension mode and zoom way in. Don’t get me wrong, the points of interest (about 6 million – as many as any other unit on the market based on what I’ve read) are in there, just not with icons.
2. Maps have plenty of inaccuracies although this is not Garmin’s fault as they get their info from one of the two map providers
3. No owner’s manual in the box. Not a problem, you just have to download it from their site (66 pages).
4. In city driving, it’s estimation of how long it will take to reach your destination is consistently short by about 5 minutes. So, if it tells me I am going to arrive at 10am, I know that most likely it will be 10:05am. In contrast, when there is highway driving involved in the trip, the unit is almost always right on within a minute or so. The trips I am talking about are 45 minutes or less.
Highly recommend it.

Iphone Gps, Will There Be A Program W/voice Directions Like The Garmin?

Will there be voice directions and moving maps like the garmin for the iphone 3g? I got the 3g 16gb and the gps program is more or less google maps and a little dot with where you are currently at. You have to scroll through directions, surely the hardware can handle all of the features the garmin & tom toms do. Is there any software to be released that does that?

I’m thinking of getting a GPS that I can use while on my motorcycle, but doesn’t cost and arm and a leg. The nuvi 275t has text-to-speech directions, and you can make calls on bluetooth, but i’m wondering if I can use bluetooth headset to hear the directions when the receiver is in my pocket.
