I can not seem to find this answer anywhere.
I know with garmin and Magellan you have to pay for map updates.
Is it that you have to pay for updates with TomTom and then the mapshare makes minor corrections from users?

You can purchase Garmin’s City Navigator NT Middle East maps. They come on either a CD or a microSD card. Not all of the Middle East has detailed coverage though. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and United Arab Emirates have the best coverage. It looks like there isn’t any coverage for Jordan, Yemen, Iraq, or Iran.

You can update every year, but they cost money. They sell the new maps on cd-rom which you load in your computer and transfer to the device.

When Did The Upgrade Cd For Maps 2008 Come Out For Garmin?

I have a Garmin C330 street pilot I bought about 5 months ago. I wanted to upgrade to 2008 maps and I e-mailed garmin about getting it free and this is what they told me:
“To be eligible for a free update for City Navigator North America NT
2008, you would have had to purchase your Gps unit within 60 days of the
release of the map update.”
Does anyone know when the 2008 maps CD came out? I’d ask garmin, but it took them 13 days to reply to my first e-mail. I want to know now!
Thanks!

No, you don’t have to upgrade. You can if you feel that there have been significant changes in roadways since you bought your GPS, but otherwise, you can continue using the older version of the software.
It’s similar to updating your pc software. Windows 95 still works, but there have been significant changes that have left 95 behind. You can still use it, but you might be missing a few changes. If you can accept missing those changes, you’re good. If you feel you need them, you update your software.
